low oil pressure = new gaskets?

Featured Replies

I didn't do a search but will putting new oil pump installation gasket set help with low oil pressure seeing how it leaks alot there?

it wont do anything to oil pressure, if you have clicky lifters, it might fix that... but it should just fix your leak.

whats wrong with your oil pressure?

at idle it can be as low as 5-10 and when at full throttle or even half it has never benn much over 30-40, only time its looks good is on cold start up

I wouldn't bet my life on the accuracy of the factory gauges in any vehicle. They are a ball park reference. Fix the oil pump because it leaks and keep on driving.

I'd get a new sending unit or a whole new guage. Mine finally went out on me this weekend and it was reading how you describe before it finally went out.

You'll know when your oil pressure gets to low... the lifters get louder than dual straight pipes!

if reality strikes with low oil pressure, I'm talkin if I fix everthing else and the pressure doesn't change, what are the consequences? I'm planning on doin the marvel mystery oil treatment to see if that helps any.

Find out if your oil pressure is REALLY that low before you try to fix something that aint broke :)

Thats where my oil pressure ALWAYS is. I chalk it up to the engine having taken the car to the moon and back like 28 times. gets better when I put some crazy thick oil (15-20w 40-50). Usually run 10w 30 most of the time though

actually, the moon is like 225-250k miles from earth, so i'd be on my way back currently.

I'm going for a moonshot too. About 238,000 at its nearest apogee. At about 183,000 now, and feeling about as good as an Apollo 13 astronaut.

That kind of oil pressure is absolutely normal for the ea81/ea82 subarus. In the ea82 manual, it says that it's normal to drop to 0 on the factory gauge at idle.

Fix the leaks and keep driving it!

well that gives me a little more piece of mind, I put on approx. 650-750 miles a week and its uphill both ways, I'm not kiddin either. I go from 6400 ft to 7200 ft with a summit crossing of 8600 ft along the way, then back home again. most of the time the little 1.8 is tapped out at 4800-5100 RPMS in third gear until I cross the summit. I'm just concerned that one day in the middle of a blizzard most likely I'm gonna grenade the motor and be left to die in the cold somewhere. :dead:
