October 12, 200421 yr This is my first Subaru Forester. The handbook is less than informative about the low ratio sugesting that when starting on a hill with a loaded trailer low ratio should be enguaged. However it does not tell you whether a move to high ratio can be made on the move and at what speed. Subaru dealer is no help and Subaru UK decline to answer my e-mails. Does any one have any information on this please. Having only just got it I dont realy want to bugger it up.
October 12, 200421 yr I do not belive any US spec Foresters have High/Low ratio (or range) I know over seas you could get dual range (high and low) but I don't think you could even get that over here. Maybe it's talking about dissenguaging an 'overdrive' feature? I know when towing things you should disenguage overdrive if so equiped. That would be on an automatic transmission however. Is this an AT or MT ?

October 14, 200421 yr Just noticed you are not in the US I have High/Low range on my '88 GL wagon. Seperate selector lever for the dual range. You can switch it while moving but not very fast. I only do it in 1st gear really. Clutch in and shift into high or low. If you had to come to a complete stop to do it the manual would warn your to do so. I wouldnt worry about it. Just dont do it while going over 25mph and you'll be fine

October 15, 200421 yr you should be able to shif in 4low when going 50 MPH, JUST shift to 5 and low, you're good for about 65 that way
