RX with A/C?

Featured Replies

I heard from a couple people that Rx's never came with AC but mine did. It has the stock AC EVERYTHING in it but what throws me off is that the AC pump is on the OUTSIDE of the alternator, not on the inside like it usually is on an EA82 car. Was this a dealer option for the RX's? I'm just really puzzled by it..... take a look for yourself... http://usmb.net/gallery/album288/100_0349

Mine has AC (or had AC) the compressor is gone..all though my JDM motor did come with one. And yes it's same thing where the compressor sits on the outside of the alt like you describe. Still haven't decided if I'm going to keep it that way when I do the swap here. Haven't even decided if I'm going to reinstall the AC or not.

A/C was part of the RX option package, if any didn't have it, they had to have it as an option deletion.

The 85-86 RX, did not come from the factory with A/C unless it was an option, those had it installed at the dealership.

Many Subarus with the A/C compressor on 85-86 were installed at the dealership, those were mounted on the outside and were usually LoneStar (Wynns) version.

87 on, Subaru mounted the Panasonic A/C on the outside, which in my option sucks. Later on, Subaru got wise and found the Hitachi to be the best A/C, so installed that on the Loyales, (on the inside of alternator) except some installed at the dealerships. (usually Wynns)

Like Corky said, I do not believe I have seen a 87 RX or newer w/o A/C

Gee Rich, a dealer installed A/C is outboard of the altenator, and a factory is inboard. If the A/C in 85 and 86 were dealer installed options, I guess I was seeing things what I looked at the 85 RX sedan that was for sale up here.

Dude that is funky looking. Of all my GL series cars none of them have had that setup. What I find odd that my GL has no AC, but my alternator hangs WAY farther out from the PS pump that your RX. So the alt looks to have been moved closer to the PS pump.

I prefer the setup with the AC in the middle... makes changing the alt once a year much easier
