Strange engine 'knock' problem

Recommended Posts

Just today as I was going around a freeway on-ramp 'cloverleaf', I accelerated at the top to merge and the engine started knocking or pinging like crazy, and sent a huge smoke cloud out the back. I let off the gas and then accelerated again, and the pinging and smoke were gone. What could have caused this? I only use at least 90 octane gas, so i'm sure its not bad gas, and the fact it only happened after I went around a hard right turn.

Check out this thread. It's all there. I haven't bothered to do the PCV mod (yet), and don't know if I'll ever bother. It only effects me on hard uphill freeway merging situations, and I just take it slow and stay in the breakdown lane with my hazard flasher on. I think most motorists take one look at my old jalopy and assume that it's on its last legs.:)

Hey just noticed you are in the same area as me :) I live in Burnsville. Some of us are getting together this SAT for a Subaru pow-wow. We could fix your PCV system right there. I prolly got all the parts laying around my garage to do it. Basicly just need a new plastic T fitting and some more 5/8" vacume hose.
