short shifter and better bushings in the rx

well, i have sarched around and havent seen much to do with shifters.the only thing i found was for the ea81 cars. i am looking for better shifter bushings and possibly a short shifter for the rx. im getting tired of punching my passengers in the knee when i go into 5th. that and the plastic trim peices kepp popping off when i shift. any one have any info on getting ahold of what i need?

skip did a custom jobbie on his gl-10. i dont remember exactly all of what it involved, but i think he said he cut and rewelded the shifter at a different angle. it made a nice difference in the way the shifter felt. as far as the bushing, all i can think of is a new OEM one.

SS has the correct idea. Plus some heating and bending of the control rod.

 

I have one in my wagon made for me by Bythe sea.

 

I have photo documention on the process. But this picture tells the story.

Unit on the left is the modified shifter.

Modded rod is on the bottom.

Note: Some minor sheet metal bending of the

front of the tunnel opening may be required.

Factory bushings when tight work great.

for bushing woe's i been kicking around the idea of having someone make up a set or a few sets out of uhmw <tough as hell self lubricating nylon type stuff>

i belive someone made some suspension bushings with the stuff

so shifter bushing duty would be easy

 

also thought of sealed ball bearings :)
