EJ-25 - EZ-30 conversion?

Featured Replies

How easy is that? And what is all needed besides the motor? Just wondering cause a friend wants to convert his 02 Legacy to a EZ-30 later on but right now need to replace the HG's on the EJ-25 right now cause of the notorious external leak has happened to him

I don't have the link, but a guy on nasioc did it to a 93 impreza and he said it was the biggest pain in the rump roast to do the wiring that he could of imagined. Then again he was making a obo2 engine run on obo2 wiring.

that doesn't seem so hard^

what would be hard is making a obd 1 motor run from a obd 2 wiring harness, that would be a PITA. the motor should fit, doesnt the EZ30 have the same bolt pattern as the EJ series motors? If so then it'll bolt right up.

ok so if I read all this correctly if we get a H-6 EZ-30 and swap out the problematic EJ-25 and both are OBD 2 engines it will be a plug and play setup then?

Probably not. I seriously doubt the ECU and wiring harnes for an EJ25 will work with and EZ30. Another concern is the accesories: A/C compressor, PS Pump and alternator. They had to place them in different locations to fit the EZ30 in the engine compartment, so the bracket will need to swapt too, and hope they are compatible.

what I was talking about Craig was swaping out ECU's and if the wiring harness from the engine (EZ-30) connecting to the harness on the body is not a problem then that's what I am looking at and if need be we can get the correct a/c lines and such if my friend does decide to keep a/c and the other various systems will be plumbed accordingly

Anders Green is the guy who did it.

His biggest problem was the wiring, but as you said some of that was from the fact that his car was an OBD1 93. Other than that it basically bolts right in.

www.linaracing.com is the outfit that did the swap. I emailed the driver of the car a few times mid-2004 and asked about it - he said the torque was crazy for the lighter chassis - spun tires in the dirt in 4th gear.

Note that he is using the car purely for rally...
