Does the choke on a carbed engine rob power while it is choking?

Recommended Posts

For the first few minutes of operation, the engine likes a richer a/f ratio. Power levels are expected to be lower.

You CAN adjust the choke, but full throttle while the engine is cold isn't recommended either way, so my advice is to let it warm up some with the choke at the current setting, THEN rag on it.

yes, i agree with snotrocket. no need to have full power potential untill your car is up to operating temp. and thats even a few minutes after the choke opens up all the way.

right, my new car has 2 fuel cut-offs for different operating temps. the cold one is at 7k and the regular, warm one is at 8200. redlining a cold motor is no good
