steering rack boot help needed

Featured Replies

My passenger side boot is shredded on my 93 legacy steering rack, I bought a new boot and clamps BUT how do i go about it in my driveway with no ramps, just a floor jack. thanks. there is no leakage which is good (317,000 miles).

I think you have to replace the whole draglink and tierod assemblies since the boot was shredded.

Thats what you have to do if you "shred" a cv boot.

Buy a set of jack stands, your life is worth much more. Now that you have the car in the air, loosen the tierod lock nut then remove the tierod cotter pin and nut and remove the tierod. can then unscrew it and put the new boot on.

From the start mark the location of the tierod locknut and count the threads so you can put it back in the same place.

Speaking of jack stands, chocks and properly securing your vehicle in order to safely work on it from underneath: Local newspaper reported about 2 weeks ago that a man died working doing a front brake pad replacement. The minivan fell off of the floor jack and on top of him. His wife and kids found him crushed in the garage. He had a set of jack stands but he had loaned them out to someone, and decided to work on his car anyway.
