February 20, 200521 yr I just pulled my left axle. Bad CVJ. I have a rebuilt axle which seems to be about an inch longer than the old one and with a bit thinner shaft. The joints themselves look the same. I am assuming the parts store gave me the wrong part. Am I correct in thinking these should be identical? This is probably a stupid question, but that's how I learn.
February 20, 200521 yr I had read in another post that the thickness of the shaft may vary, but the length should be the same. Probably got the wrong one.
February 21, 200521 yr Author The varying shaft size gives me some hope. First thing in the morning, I will double check. It is possible that the inner joint has in and out play that I had not taken into consideration.
February 21, 200521 yr the older shafts are thicker and shorter. EA81 style, EA82 style is the longer, thinner one. yup, they gave you the wrong one.
February 21, 200521 yr you can identify the axle by the bands on the outer end of the shaft, one band is 2wd and two bands is 4wd. on ea82's turbos have 3 bands and are fatter the inner jointdoes slide back and forth sh you should bottom them out to compare lengths ea82 axles are 2 in longer than ea81
