guys with er27s?

Featured Replies

theres only a few of you out there, with the er27 in ea81s. just wondering, did you bother with the front anti pitch rod, dogbone thingy?

Wondering on that myself. Kinda thinking it's a bit of over-engineering on Subaru's part, but could be wrong on that. Can see where it would help stop the engine from wanting to pitch either up or down, when running the stock driveline set-up. But for those of us doing the T-case mod, we're not powering the front axles thru the tranny and therefore not putting that implied force on the engine.

Been thinking of beefing-up the top-mounted pitch-bar and it's body mount area, and do away with lower one.

Am I totally out-to-lunch on that thought trail???

are you still running with the solid motor mounts? what about trans mounts?

Tom brings up a good point... since you're still powered from the trans stubs, having the pitching stopper in place is gonna help smooth out putting the power down to the wheels... similar to stopping axle wrap in a leaf sprung vehicle....

if your trans mounts are solid, then not as important... would help cause less stress on thecrossmember mount points, but that's about it.

It's my understanding the top pitch bar on all the Subaru engines was a saftey feature. In the event of a head on collision it would help force the engine down and under the car; instead of straight back and into your lap! Thought I read it somewhere but can't recall where now...

i ran it in rear wheel drive, and the motor still hops around quite a bit, with rubber mounts. tom, how you gonna run a top pitch stopper with an er27? the one on the tranny? of a 5 speed?

but since i have switched to solid mounts, tranny and motor, ive ran it with no pitch adjuster... top or bottom. fwd and rwd. seems ok, not breaking the motor mounts yet =]

Trying to remember how the XT-6 was set up, been over a year since I pulled the ER-27 out. Do believe, that there was an upper one on the top engine/tranny bolts. If nothing else, just do a custom fabbed mount for one.

Hmmmm, maybe I'll just fab the front one into my design instead. I'll be putting a Bash-plate on the front to help protect the engine and other vitals located there. So I'll have something in the area to mount it to anyways.
