84 GL stuck in gear! Help.

Featured Replies

My GL is stuck in 4th gear. I've been hearing a tell-tale high pitched noise lately and figured the throw out bearing was going out.

The shift lever is in neutral and when I try to shift into gear it grinds like the clutch isn't engaged although, when I press the clutch in the rpms drop down.

Just wondering what I'm dealing with.

Im not an expert but id guess that you throw out bearing is seized, not sure how common that is though. That would expain the drop in rpm when you push the clutch in. As for the grinding when you shift into gear you could try tightening the clutch cable but if the throw out bearing is seized then you will just wear the fingers down on your pressure plate and the problem will come back. As for geting stuck in fouth gear i have the same problem when i stop in fourth gear i get it unstuck turning off the engine and releaseing the clutch. I just remember not to leave it in fourh before i come to a stop.

Hope this helps.

Does your fork move when you push in the clutch?

I don't know but the shift handle is in neutral but the trans is in 4th. When I push in the clutch the shifter won't go in any gear, including 4th. From this thread http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23293 It sounds like I need to pull the tranny. If so, it's going on the marketplace.
