RX Disty: Hitachi or Nipodenson?

Featured Replies

Went to the store today to get the stuff I was after... and the clerk asked if it was Hitachi or Nipo. I didnt know off hand and instead of wasting her time I told her I'd return. I thought Subaru would have picked one by 1987 and I wouldnt have to worry about it.

How can I tell which disty I have?

Look at the p/n on the body and search it at www.1stsubaruparts.com and it should tell you which version you have; I'd bet it's Hitachi. While you're at it you could search the cost of getting those parts mail order.

IIRC EA82Ts that do not have the crankangle sensor type distributor are Hitachi. If it's possible go back with the Cap & Rotor for your RX in hand. You would have to be blind to mistake the Hitachi cap for the Nipodenso cap.

My parts store has my car in the computer:-p

When you get to the store, just take the couple of minutes to pull the cap and rotor off the car, walk inside and have them compare them. Seems to work better them "Well this is is" and then getting the wrong parts and then having to wait again for them to come in:rolleyes:

Exactly. Oh, psbtw: NipponDenso. :-p

I took the cap off today but didnt see any identifying marks on it. I found a 1 stamped where the #1 plug goes.

There were no clips, but 2 screws. And no tabs sticking off the bottom of it to fit in the disty. I was going to goto the store and look at the 2 and make a decision now that I know what mine looks like. But then I started playing WoW.

I just finished and its almost 11pm. So i'll need to get a cap tomorrow after work.
