1989 RX driveshaft question

Featured Replies

If i wanted to swap out the engine for say a newer WRX one and to handle the power if modded i also swapped the drivetrain, would i just need to mod the driveshaft and is it possible for the swaps? as in reasonably possible? Is there any driveshaft from another vehicle i can use or do i have to custom make it. how much is it for a decent driveshaft fabrication if there isnt one i can find from another car?

The easiest way would be to have both the new and old driveshafts, then have the pieces cut and rewelded together at the appropriate length with the appropriate flanges. Expect to pay around $150 for the cutting, welding and balancing.

there are driveline and off roading shops that can do this no problem. some machine shops will cut, weld, and balance drive shafts too, just call around and start asking. i agree with his price above. if you're really looking for high performance have a solid aluminum driveshaft made. be sure to get very good measurements or keep the old/new driveshafts as templates no matter which option you choose.

i think fitting axles will be trickier than the driveline. you'll need axles for the new trans that fit into your old hubs. unless they are a direct swap, which i highly doubt.
