July 4, 200520 yr It is there do to the additional heat generated from the turbo motor. Chances are with the scoop you will get enough cool air in there to offset the heat. And won't see any heat related discoloration to the hood or paint.
July 4, 200520 yr it's there on all cars stock, turbo or non, it keeps heat from damaging your paint and collets alot of dirt and grease, Take the damn thing out!

July 5, 200520 yr Funny, I was just talking to some friends about it. The only part of the car where the clear coat is peeling off is the hood area. Little background. The car was parked for over 2 years with leaves and stuff landing on it. Mice chewed up the insilation at some time. Not sure if the hood peeled before or after the mice got to the insillation. I guess I am just saying that this MAY happen to your car if you take out the insilation. But like Qman said the hood scoop will probably help. I installed a hood scoop and tore out the rest of the insilation. Any advanced destruction of the clear coat was caused by a high pressure washer more than anything. notice insilation missing (chewed by mice) notice hood clear coat damage
July 5, 200520 yr My 98 sedan has that crap, but my 86' doesnt, go figure, like either engine is hotter than one another...lol and the 86' has NO peeling paint on the hood, and its been through a couple of overheats. ~Josh~
