July 19, 200520 yr I know this has been discussed, would some one line me up with a link or give me the basics, what clutch,axles and drive shaft is needed. I know i need the pedal assembly, and other obvious things. The kid took out the tranny last night on her t-coupe. oh yea, will this affect in any way the digi dash? strange ? just curios.
July 19, 200520 yr The biggest difference I can see is... The 4 speed tranny has a one piece driveline The 5 speed has a two piece driveline which means more work. Along with the pedal box you'll need the cable for the clutch... Good Luck, Glenn
July 19, 200520 yr well Bill, a custom driveshaft would have to be made for the EA82 5-speed tranny whereas just an EA81 manual tranny driveshaft would work. Axles would be the same from an EA81 manual and EA81 auto but the EA82 turbo trannys have the bigger splines on the DOJ side. There's a good set of axles in the parts car and tranny ('85 GL-10 turbosedan) and the gearing is the same as the turbocoupe so no changing the rear ends out. I would recommend an EA82 clutch setup for it since it'll be able to hold the power a little more then the EA81 clutch.
July 19, 200520 yr The 4spd sucks bad on a turbo, been there - done that. I went through 3 clutches in barely 3 months. Carfreak should speak up, he's done the 5spd swap on his turbo wagon. The only issue is the driveshaft I believe.
