LSD in 5 speed

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody This is Jerry, well i am trying to stuff a LSD in a 5 speed dual range tranny. I removed the LSD unit from the rear housing and the ring gear has 8 bolts on it. Well the ring gear from the 5 speed has 12 bolts on it they don't swap over. I was sure somebody has done this swap over. My question is what set up was used on the change over. Please let me know i need to get this tranny back together. Thanks Jerry

The only one of which I heard was mudrat79's conversion, where he used a "phantomgrip" differential, not an FHI LSD.

Hi This is Jerry, the ring gear is smaller in the rear end than in the 5 speed. The ring gear in the rear end has 8 bolt holes and the 5 speed has 12 bolt holes. Thanks Jerry

Sorry Jerry, it just doesn't fit.. A few people have torn them down to look, just like what you are doing, but I don't know of a single success in using the LSD chunk in the front diff. Closest thing is a phantom grip.

And from what I've talked to John about; it's not a direct bolt in either. There is modifications required to make it fit.
