voltage fluctuation?

Featured Replies

I am kind of baffled.

When my car is just cruising along, the voltmeter will sometimes fluctuate by a few volts.

At idle, the voltage will fluctuate more, occasionally going down below 12 volts.

Regardless of engine speed, the turn signal or brake lights will cause a voltage fluctuation and a slight dimming of the headlights.

Voltage regulator bad? Alternator? Something else?

It's got an almost new Optima battery in it.

this is a good sign your alternator is going bad. At least its not going up in voltage and not stopping because that can start to fry major electrical parts. I know if your alternator goes bad and you have a digital dash, it can sometimes take a toll on the dash which we all know, is not a very cheap part:banghead:
