September 13, 200520 yr Does anyone have any advice on converting an ea71 to SPFI? I have the opportunity of getting the makings for about $100 us.
September 13, 200520 yr The big hurdle you will have is that you'll have to make a custom intake manifold, as the EA82 SPFI manifold will not fit onto the EA71. If that doesn't scare you, here's a link to the conversion manual: http://www.mnchopshop.org/images/us...sion_manual.pdf
September 13, 200520 yr As said you'd have to make/get made a manifold... When I did mine, I did it the hard way, making my own harness, man what a PITA, but it works and I am currently running without an O2:-p and still getting almost twice the gas milage!! 200 miles on half a tank so far and its got more power and idles better and acclereates and.......
September 14, 200520 yr Was there an EA71 SPFI anywhere else in the world?? I'd love to have an EA71 SPFI with a D/R 5spd 4WD....in an oldschooler. To me,the SPFI is just perfect for guys like me.Add it to the best engine Subaru ever gave us,toss in the best tranny Subaru ever gave us,and that's the one for me. Good luck with this.Show pics please.
September 14, 200520 yr Author The EA71 manifold looks as if an adapter plate could be fabricated to bolt the throttle body to. Has anyone tried this or does it seem feasible?
September 14, 200520 yr That's a definite possibility. Just remember to plumb in the coolant temp sensor for the SPFI somewhere, or it will run like crap.
