2.5 gas mileage

Featured Replies

Just filled the 2.5 GT up for the first time and worked the mileage out and it came to about 22.3 MPG mostly city driving with a little highway here and there..is this a normal figure or should I be getting more miles? I will tell you guys one thing...what a breath of fresh air from filling my 5.9 V8 Grand Cherokee.

That's pretty normal.

Our 2.5's get around 21 in all city driving and go up from there as you add hwy miles. Straight highway / freeway is usually 29 or so and the best ever tank was 33.

With winter gas I got 23mpg from Tucson to Portland... Summer gas I get about 22-25 City and about 27-28 highway... Sometimes a bit less cuz I'm a speed demon!:brow: It's hard to do IMO but you'd get good gas mileage keeping your RPMS between 1500 and 3500 ... *putt putt putt putt*

yeah i usually try to keep my rpm's inm that range...its a force of habit cause id never let the rpm's in the jeep go above 2000 in city driving

Just did Houston Austin Houston and got 26.5mpg in the 97 OBW. Avg speed was 70mph w/auto tranny.

I've been getting 25-26 mixed and 29 hwy with an 01 Legacy L wagon and I am very happy with that. I just filled up yesterday and I am trying to stick with the factory shift speeds as per the owners manual...I wonder if it will make a difference at all :-\

the 96 OBW gets around 23 - 27 (hwy) has more pick up/power then the 99 OBW which gets 25/26 in town & over 30 on a nice highway ride (especially if my wife is driving).

My '98 Legacy GT (it has the 2.5, but it's not turbo) gets 21.5mpg on my daily commute (which I'd say is about 25% freeway, 75% city driving)

2001 Forester L 2.5 no turbo. I keep tires filled to 40 lbs and I am getting 25 mixed city/hwy.

'04 FX at 15,000 miles has seen a constant 25.5 mpg mixed and 28.5 mpg highway.

Mixed country/town 15 mile each way commute, two tank averages, mixed cruise, A/C use:

2.5 - '04 Legacy wagon A/T, 165,000 miles = 25.5 mpg

2.2 - '95 Legacy wagon A/T, 130,000 miles = 26.5 mpg

On cruise the 2.2 has one downshift for a hill that the 2.5 ignores.

'03 forester, 26mpg average, have gotten as high as 28. I drive 50/50 highway and around town.
