September 19, 200520 yr You may just have to put up with it until they break in. Find a good hill and go down it a few times, or (I hate to say it) ride the brakes for a few miles and see if they still grind. If it keeps doing it and you cant stand the noise, you may think about getting different brake pads.

September 19, 200520 yr Did you turn the piston, so to line the groove up in the piston straight across?????? If not , the "nub" on the inner brake pad will not be recessed into it and that will force a new pad too tightly against the rotor...... AND with new rotors too, you can't afford this. Todd
September 19, 200520 yr Noise coming from both sides? If so, take out the pads on one side and spin the tire, just to make sure it's really the pads. If the noise goes away, then it really is most likely the pads, and you might check to see if the metal "wear" tab that sticks out from one of the pads is hitting the rotor. Otherwise, I'm lost - take em back and get a different brand.

Todd Its pointing straight across when I installed them. I made sure of that. Ill check to see if the nub isnt in the grove though.
September 19, 200520 yr Well I just finished the front brake install on my '78 and I have a big time problem... I got the brakes all bleed, that worked fine, have decent brake pressure. BUT when the car moves, its like a metal ochestra under my front wheels... MAJOR grinding. I know its because its new pads, and a new rotor and theres not alot of space there, but how in the heck can this be fixed or what is the problem??? Im totally clueless... Check your caliper bolts as well as the caliper carrier bolts. They might be rubbing the back side of the rotor. Especially if you forgot the washer or put a bolt back in the wrong spot. Easy to do, just turn the rotor and start loosening bolts. If the noise goes away when you back a bolt out, it's probably rubbing on that bolt. Of course don't drive the car with loose bolts...
September 19, 200520 yr the metal masters are really loud I thought I my wheel bearsing were going out for a while. just drive the thing. and bed the pads in, it should get better.

September 22, 200520 yr Author I put on the anti-squeel brake stuff, double checked everything, and it was all fine... So, I ran it without wheels, and it worked fine. BUT when I put on the wheels, omg insane metal scrape noise! I turned the wheels and found it, you wont believe it either... The stupid ebrake is rubbing just barely on the 13" wheels Solution: Buy tires for the 15" pugs I have and install them, LOL! Im not going to adjust the ebrake because in order for it to operate where it clears the 13" brakes the light comes on, which isnt right. So Ill just leave it like this and do the 15"'s.
