SPFI Distributer ?

Featured Replies

Is it possible for a distributer (on its way out...jumping tach) to cause a shut off and no start intermittant issue?

MPFI ones I've seen were vacume advance. Your is electronicly advanced. You need any SPFI one; they are all the same. Let me know if you absolutly can't find one.

I have an MPFI the SPFI is an ongoing isse i have with a friends car, no codes (except for a 5, which seems to be a ghost code no one knows about) replaced fuel pump, and injector, fuel is coming from the throttle body, and computer replaced today but i dont like how she started up, I have noticed the tach jumping on an intermittant basis, im focusing there, but confused as to why no code (and yes the "5" was being issued on both computers) if there was at any point, a disruption in the signal from the sensor.

I believe "5" means it's a manual transmission ECU, whereas "7" is an automatic transmission ECU. Please correct me if I'm incorrect.

you know thats funny you are the first person to give me a response, my calling subaru to talk to my guys there didnt know, both are leading techs there and thought i was reading it wrong (so offended as I was knowing im NOT insane, i used my treo 650 to video record it !, the injector was cycling along with the fuel pump, it seems the "new" computer was the fix for at least that, waiting to see its behavior on shutting down, has not done it yet, thanks on the "5" ?

It depends on the year. When they switched to the hot wire MAF they also switch to the crank angle distributor

Yup, I ran an 87 SPFI disty in my 87 MPFI turbowagon for about a year, until it started exhibiting symptoms very similar to what the original poster has going on. I swapped it out for another junkyard SPfi dizzy and haven't had a problem since (well, not a distributor related problem anyway.. plenty of other problems of my own making :-p )
