Turbo16
Which is the best gearbox in subaru? I need do know, how much it will take horsepowers&torgue? How much i have to upgrade it? How many different 4wd systems Subaru had? Only one?
nipper
As far as i know there was the part time dual range 4wd; part time single range 4wd; Awd with a computer controlled clutchpack, and AWD with a viscous coupling. As far as HP I would suggest max HP for whatever engine that year tranny would take, plus 25%. Subaru tends to overbuild things. I dont know if there were differnt transmissions for the turbo vs. non turbo. If there is no differnce aside from gear ratios, I would go by the turbo HP for that year. nipper (hope I didnt confuse you)
BobBrumby
yeh the turbos where awd and n/a came in 4spd and 5spd dual range and 5spd single range 4wd. all of the n/a one where where part time 4wd, otherwise front wheel drive. if u wanted to run a turbo tranny in an n/a you need the front drive shafts from turbo as the stubs coming out of the tranny have 25 splines for turbos and 23 splines for n/a. Turbo16
I was wondering to make Saab 9000 4wd and make it happen with subaru 4wd system. Can i see pictures subarus transmissions? Does subaru had McPhersons suspension system?

Does subaru had McPhersons suspension system? What year 9000? The subaru transmission mounts in the car in the fashion of a rwd car. the saabs are transverse, and the motor actually sits partially on top of the transmisssion. In order to use the subaru 4wd system, it would require using a rwd engine configuration as well, which would pretty much preclude the use of the sab motor. that said, the 95/96/sonnett platform takes a subaru motor pretty readily, but again, using a 4wd transmission present some interesting challenges (for different reasons.) nipper
That would be an interesting project to say the least. I always wanted to put a sooby turbo or 6 cylinder and awd system in a corvair..but i would end up with one forward speed and 5 reverse speeds. I always thought if womone could put a jag v-12 in one i could put a sooby in one too.... But then the drugs wear off and I become sane again nipper

Yes, i know that. In 900 motor is lengtwise & 9000 motor is crosswise. How is in subarus? But 900 isn't McPherson suspension system and that's more difficulty. I can do lots of 9000 motor, car doesn' go to registery. That means it will only "fly" in the track . In 96 4wd, used subaru 4wd system. That's why i need your expertise in 900 or 9000 making 4wd car.
