Syphoning

Recommended Posts

Anyone know how to get ALL the fuel out of these via syphon? I got 1/2 a tank out but the other 1/2 is still in there, and I need it! No matter what I cannot get my hose to get further down in the tank, it just won't go and is bunching up on something along the way.

I tried taking off the fuel line at the carb and having the fuel pump do it for me, but I forgot that it won't pump without the engine turning over. And since it's a new pump I don't want to mess with it's wiring to make it run.

I dont think the EA82 cars have a drain plug in the fuel tank. If you plug in the test mode connectors the fuel pump will pulse with the key on but engine not running. I did this to empty a tank, just ran a line from the filter into a can and let it go, it didn't take to long but it was only about 2 1/2 gal.

The way I got all the gas out of my dead XT was to remove the fuel sending unit and siphon from there. Pull the carpet up in the back and you'll see a little metal lid in there, pull it up and you've got access to the sending unit, little bolts all around it. Remove it and there's just barely enough room to slip a siphon hose between the body of the car and the fuel tank, when it comes through that hole, just stick it down in the tank and siphon away. I got everything out of the tank, all but about 1/16" of gas.

I couldn't even reach the gas running a hose through the filler tube, and that was with a full tank of gas!
