Stupid Question!!!

Featured Replies

I just bought my first Subaru, it is an 87 GL Wagon. I am about to change out the oil and was wondering how many quarts of oil it should take? I know this is a stupid question but I would rather ask it than over fill it. Thanks for the help.

Welcome! The only stupid question is the one that is not asked (except for the occasional one asked by me :))

Peace . . .

Did you know?

Many old Subies don't need the oil changed

It's a fact! Old Subies have a tendency to leak oil

at a rate the allows you to always add clean oil and never

have it in the car long enough to get dirty

Keep an eye on the dipstick!!! ;)

thanks everyone for the welcome. This really looks like an awesome resource.

Welcome, fellow Spokanite.

Okay, I moved to Colorado 4 years ago now, but I grew up in Loon Lake, so I sort of identify with eastern Washington. And yes, this is an awesome resource.

Hey JK, and Welcome.

Lots of members from the Dry-side of the mountains on this post so thought... hey... why not say, "Hi". Surprised "Baccaruda" hasn't said hi... he is in Spokane and knows these Roos. I got some parts off him last month.

As for oil, yea my son did that... from what I have learned the extra oil will froth up in these flat engines as the connecting rods splash in the extra oil or something like that... so best to get it right.

I was in Spokane last month and surprised how many Subaru's were in the Pull & Pay auto scrap yard...so many cars...so little time :-\

Later.
