2wd to 4wd conversion done! But...

Featured Replies

Ok so I changed my 2wd 92 loyale to 4wd d/r 5 speed, which is just awesome. but I have a few little problems. Maybe you guys can help me. And if anyone wants to know how to do a 2wd to 4wd conversion pm or what not

email: crashed240z@yahoo.com

1.) wagon has honda springs, but it has stock 2wd springs in the front. after the conversion it sits really high in the back! It has a serious rake to it, which wasn't their before. Is the gl rear suspension different then a loyale's? or are my front springs too soft?

2.) Then the d/r tranny is missing some electronic sender or something because my check engine light came on right after installation. their is a 2 wire plug from the car's harness which the 2wd tranny had and the d/r dosen't. anyone know what it is, or how to rewire it, or make the light shut off?

any help in this matter is much appreciated!

The light is code 51, the neutral switch. I know this from experience but have not yet got around to finding a solution because my car is almoast FUBAR.

Thanx man I appriciate that, saves me some time.

sorry about your your offroad trip gone bad. I'd throw another motor in. junkyards are your friend!

The front two wheel drive struts are weaksauce, they are way weeker than the four wheel drive struts. Go to the local junkyard and get yourself some new struts

They might be shorter than the 4wd struts too.

yep, FWD struts are shorter than 4WD struts, and I think loyale struts are shorter than GL struts. plus the honda spring, I bet you've got a crazy rake going there!

yep, neutral switch, older gl's had a clutch switch, newer ea82's had it on the tranny. it'll throw the code, but that's about it, as far as I can tell...

oh yea, and how did you go about attaching the center driveshaft bearing?

For now i have a 3 foot flat bar which is 3/8" thick bolted to the floor pans. 2 bolts per pan. Also the driveshaft bearing's mounting holes are offset a 1/4" like this _ - so I put a 3/4" spacer under one and an inch spacer under the other, bolted it to the flat bar and bolted it to the floor pans. works great from what I can tell.

Problem with the struts being shorter is that i didn't change struts. They are stock struts. The rears only have honda springs nothing else. they are 2wd struts all around. so am i missing something? is the rear suspension different in a gl?
