October 20, 200520 yr Is this car worth $300? Would I ever be able to find the rear axle shafts for it?:-\
October 20, 200520 yr Author I'm sure you could find , or adapt rear axles. $300 is fair. Todd I can get this car out of the yard for $300. Should I go for it?
October 20, 200520 yr I can get this car out of the yard for $300. Should I go for it? If you have $300 and the time and place to keep it you CAN'T go wrong. Enjoy life, you're going to die someday.Cheers!
October 20, 200520 yr Author Ok, I called the yard and told them I will take the wagon so I hope everything goes as planned. Can I flat tow this car (towbar) without causing any damage? Remember the rear axles are not in the car.
October 20, 200520 yr Author Yes...you can flat tow. Make sure 4WD is disengaged. Todd Does the 4WD lever have a neutral position?
October 20, 200520 yr I flat towed mine with the 4wd lever in the "not engaged" position, which I guess would be the 2wd position (sorry, my lever is missing the label; but I believe 4wd is down, and 2wd is up). Mine's a 79, so there might be a difference. Check your local public library for old repair manuals. Orrrr, maybe moosens or subaru3 can correct me. Does the 4WD lever have a neutral position?
October 20, 200520 yr Author Does anyone know if this car has an ignition/steering wheel lock? There is no key for it and the wheels will need to turn to flat tow it. Also, any ideas on what to do about the missing key/how to get a key? Sorry for all the stupid questions and thanks to all in advance for helping;)
October 20, 200520 yr Key: a good mobile locksmith will make a key on the spot (unless you're in the boonies) for $100 or less. some don't even need a vin/keycode book. Lock: sledge hammer and screwdriver into the lock barrel always works. But if you've made the key.... You might want to consider a tow dolly, less than 50 bucks a day, and hope the steering isn't locked. Or winch it onto flatbed trailer. October 20, 200520 yr The lever down is 4WD/ up is FWD. There should be an ignition lock. The steering design has a LOT of play left to tight before locking though. If you take the ignition switch off, that takes care of the locked steering. (Not to hard to do) Todd

Resolution: either get a key (as noted above) if you have the $$ to do it, or disassemble the ignition mechanism and take it off the steering wheel, that will remove the bolt. You can get a generic ignition with new keys for $10-20. Having a key made would be better, tho, since it would probably also work in the doors.
