October 22, 200520 yr I have a 1986 brat. When I go up a hill or incline on the road the motor starts to cut out. When I am on flat ground, the engine revs up fine. I have changed both fuel filters, they were rusty but look good now, and still does it. The fuel pump clicks and is sort of noisy. Wondering if it might be the fuel pump going out . Any ideas, thanks...........
October 22, 200520 yr Could very well be the pump. I might try changing the filters again just because the first ones were rusty. May even have to flush the tank. There may even be some of the same in the float bowl.

October 24, 200520 yr actually, I'd guess that downshifting would just make it worse? well, if it's acting the same as my 87 is, it would. could only use about half throttle.
