October 30, 200520 yr Sonofa***************! I was under the hood standing on the chasssis trying to get this thing in. I tried aligning the clutch by eye as closely as possible and jiggling it every way to make it attach to the transmission shaft. No luck. Does anyone have any experience or advice regarding this procedure? Right now I'm going to check to see that the clutch alone slides on smoothly to the transmission. It's the same clutch from before I removed the engine, and it was hell getting it off in the first place.
October 30, 200520 yr yes, I can help! when I did the clutch on my car, the alignment tool that came with the kit would not fit in the pilot bearing, fit in the clutch plate just fine, but was WAY too big for the bearing. anyway, I searched around, and found this: do not tighten the pressure plate to the flywheel, just thread the 6 bolts on a few turns, that way the clutch plate can move freely around, then, tighten the bolts through the starter hole. you'll need a friend for this part: put the tranny in gear, and make sure the clutch pedal is released (the clutch will engage with the engine and tranny bolted together tight). Then set one front wheel on a block or something, so it can't move, and have you're friend rotate the other wheel, slowly. While they're doing this, watch the hole, and count the bolts as they go by. this is where it get's a bit tricky, but only mentally since you need to tighten the bolts in a star pattern, you need to count them, you can't just tighten each one as it goes by. tighten one, then count the third, tighten it, then the second, tighten, then the third again....etc. 3-2-3-2-3-2, there are 6 bolts, I would recommend tightening each one twice, so you need to count 12...then I would recommend going one full turn, checking each one, to make sure you didn't count wrong, and tighten the same 2 bolts 12 times... I hope that helps!

October 31, 200520 yr I just used a pencil with a socket the size of the center of the flywheel to line it up, like 8mm 3/8 dirve or something close. If not then I know the tool itself is not too much to purchase. Autozone has a tool rental deal too thats not so bad.
October 31, 200520 yr jack up the tranny so that the motor slides on without the motor mounts catching the frame Ditto, greatest trick ever. If you need the clutch alignment tool let me know, i have like an infinity of those, 5 bucks shipped.
October 31, 200520 yr Aside from the clutch alignment tool, which makes it much easier, I buy two bolts the same diameter as the transmission bolts, but about three or four inches long. I cut off the ends and chamfer the ends, and then cut a slot in the end. I thread them in on opposite sides of the transmission, and use them as guides to get the tranny in place. They make it really easy to get everything lined up, and the slots in the end allow you to remove them easily when you're done.
October 31, 200520 yr The Only Problem I Ever Had Was A Guard Under The Engine, Dust Sheild I Think, between Trans And Engine, Was Bent Up A Little , Just Enough To Stop Engine From Tightening Up. Took Me A While To Find That Out.
November 21, 200520 yr Ditto, greatest trick ever. If you need the clutch alignment tool let me know, i have like an infinity of those, 5 bucks shipped. Seems like nobody carries just the Clutch Alignment tool anymore... NoahDL88 I sent you a PM.
