LEAK in my Forester

I was just tol that I have a leak in my rad. Last month I had a new water pump put on. Has anyone ever put in any stop leak stuff in? The dealer said he can not find the leak but when he put it under presure it leaked out on the bottom. Money is tight and I am going to need to replace the RR axel, and the charcoal canister too. I'm looking at over 1000.00 and most of that is the rad. at 440.00 installed. Anybody have an opinion

It couldn't hurt to try the stop leak first. If it fails your not out much money.

 

If your Subaru was under the recall for the cooling system conditioner, you may need to re-condition your system if you dump the antifreeze.

 

Have you checked all your hoses? I found a leak behind my water pump in the by-pass hose. Very hard to find.

Ok what year is your subaru and engine size. We cant help you if you dont give us that info. Also a radiator is an easy do it yourself job, and there are lots of places to buy radiators besides the dealer, i use www.raditor.com myself.

checked the hoses? anyways, there are lots of stores where you can find radiator, just look for a reliable dealer that won't charge you with lots of $$$.

Unless you are an avid environmentalist, or your jurisdiction insists on it for an emissions test of some sort, why replace the charcoal canister? To my knowlege it won't hurt your car's performance in any way. It just prevents gas fumes from getting into the atmosphere. And Subaru wants WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for the darn things as well. Personally, I refused to allow my dealer to replace the one on my last Subie (sometime about 1999), and saved about $65 as I recall. I imagine the darn things are worth even more now.
