XT alternator?

Featured Replies

the 4-cyl XT's have the same alt

the 6-cyl ones have a better one, but it requires some modification to make it work...doa search for info on that

All XT's are oddballs. The alt may work, may not. It may have a serpentine pulley on it, which will have to be changed. Or the mounts may be different. You will only know if you have it there to compare.

Really?? I guess I've just been lucky then

I stand corrected!! thanks!

I think the stock one is 60 amps. There are people here on the board who have used a GM 100 amp alternator with very little modification.

XT alternator will not work. I have an XT engine in my RX, and tried to mount an L-series alt, and besides the different pulley, the shaft is a different length as well.

That being said... the XT alt is no more powerful than the stock one from your car anyway.

you can use an XT unit if you are willing to modify it a little.

the mounting points are not quite the same and will require a small bracket to be fabricated on the adjustment side. the pully spacer needs to be machined down a bit. at least thats how it went on my wagon.

the amperage is greater than the stock one but not as much as the XT6 unit. I think mine tested somewhere around 60 amps my stock unit was only about 45amps.
