GT flawless in the snow

Featured Replies

I just had my 98 2.5GT out for the first time in the snow in NEPA. We got around 8" and I could not believe how well the car went right through it without even being plowed. I dont even have snow tires!!! I Love this car!! I will be totally honest the Subaru beats the ************ out of my Jeep even in deep snow!!

Subes rule in the snow, but until you go through a winter with a set of really good modern snows like Hakkas, etc. you haven't experienced the thrill of leaving EVERYTHING in the dust (snow dust).

I've tried the "all season" route and there is absolutely no comparison, not even close. Good snow performance (safety) includes steering and stopping too and this is is where you'll find the Sube-shod-with-snows to dominate over the rolley-polley SUV's & raised macho trucks.

Lastly, remember AWD lets you get stuck WAAAY deeper. :banghead:;)

blitz is spot on, a good set of snows is night and day (Cooper WeatherMaster M/T2 in my case), makes my '91 T-Leg a snow monster. :) And any of my Subes will run circles around my 4WD Suburban, not even in the same class.

That's why my policy is to leave it in 2wd (both my suby and my 4wd truck) till I get stuck, then put it in 4wd or 4wd lo to get out.

Of course, usually I then make an exception to the policy and keep going after putting it in 4wd, until I'm really good and stuck... Shovel time!!!

Agreed, I'm a new Suby owner with a 97 GT and it's awesome so far. First time ever that I'm (almost) sad to see a chinook come through and melt everything. :D

I had my 97 GT out in the snow (8 inches) for the first time yesterday, and it really is the best thing I have ever driven in the snow. I drove my dads Suburban later in the evening, and there is really no comparison. I can't wait until I get some more aggressive tyres on my roo ;-).

We have a jeep and a suby, and I can say with certainty that I have had the jeep in places that the suby can't go. With that said, the suby is a much safer vehicle, and much more capable up to the limits imposed by ground clearance and the non-locking style AWD, beyond which the jeep prevails. If it's slippery I want to drive the suby, and if it's dry I want to drive the Jetta. Hmm, why did we buy the jeep again?

PS: Studded Nokian's rock!!
