Hill assist?

Featured Replies

Hey my car up till about a year ago had the "Hill Assist" feature and it kicked rump roast and then it stoped working one day and no clue why.... What controlls it and what should i check on to see what the deal is with it.

Cable is out of adjustment most likely.I never worked on a loyale so I don't want to give you the wrong info as to how to adjust it.

There's a cable that comes from the clutch release fork, and goes over to the hillholder valve, which is right under the master cylinder. It could be out of adjustment, or the actual hillholder could have sprung an internal leak. I'd try adjusting it first. I can't remember which way to adjust it, but I do remember that if it's too far one way, it will never release the brakes. To far the other way sounds like where you are.

There are two adjustments. One is on the cable that goes to the clutch fork. The other adjustment, and less likely to need adjustment, is the angle of the hillholder on the car. If it's not at the right angle, it will work on steeper hills but not mild hills. But it's more likely that your cable is disconnected or out of adjustment, or possibly that the hillholder failed.

The HH adjusts just like the clutch on all Subaru's. If the cable adjustment doesn't work then look for leakage from the top of the hill holder cylinder. Angle is not adjustable. It is based off of pressure not angle.

A fun toy in the city but...

I'd be careful with it if you go 4wding, you can easily loose control of your brakes/pedal.

My Hill Holder broke/came unadjusted long ago and I prefer it that way.

Off-road it can be tricky to deal with.
