From your local junkyards?

i usually just go when there is an engine sale like "any engine $40, or maybe $65" have got about 4 sube engines for those prices, regular price is usually $125 at the yards i go to.

i wait till someone gives me a whole car, just got an 88 2wd wagon, gonna sell it whole once i do the brakes

Usually nothing to as much as $60.

Wow. Are those prices for engines that are guaranteed to run? I just got told $500.

not gauranteed to run, this is a u pull it yard price. usually, they won`t let you test run it either. your best bet when you are considering pulling a motor is to look for other things on the car that might have stopped it from driving (bad wreck, rollover, rust) if the body is in good shape, it could very likely be that the motor is toast.

Well, some of the yards around here are crazy. There are no chain-type yards, just mom 'n pops. The one I got the price from yesterday seems pretty honest - they based their price on what one of the bigger yards charges, and cut it in half. I saw a price online for one of the yards in a neighbouring town : $1250. Really.

So, I really don't want to do a full rebuild on mine, as it will cost me over $700 in parts to do right (oil pump=$200!!). I either need a cheap J/Y engine in running order, or a shortblock that's good to do a head job/reseal on.

Sometimes you can get lucky and get a good engine for under 100 bucks look for cars in peoples yards that have sat for awhile. I got an Ea82 with 98.000 on it for 150$ pulled.

ya but thats US, in Canada they really bend ya over! i could get ya a whole car for that price though

If I could get a whole car in running, sellable order for that much . . .

I could sell it for more than that here and have some more cash to dump into the project!

Or I could use the engine / trans from it to throw into mine.
