What Struts?

Featured Replies

Been looking at replacing my struts. Been planning on getting the KYB GR2's but am wondering what #'s for my Legacy SUS. I think it's the Legacy Outback, but am not sure. If so, do I just use the SM5361's all around? Here's a link to the info I'm going by. Please let me know. TIA.

These struts are for a normal legacy and are a bit shorter than the outback models. The can be made to work but you will loose some ground clearance. Great price tho... Check out tirerack.com for the best price on the proper replacements for your SUS.

Anybody know how much clearance I will lose? What are the advantages of going to a shorter strut? Less Lean when cornering? Are there any disadvantages other than less clearance? Will these bolt right on without having to fab. a workable solution? TIA.

Most people go the other way. Add outback struts to their non-outback legacy. Using the non-outback springs, I've read reports of a 1.5 to 2 inch gain in clearance. More if they switch to outback springs as well. I suspect that you would loose about that much clearance. The difference in going to legacy struts on your sus is that you will be using longer springs on shorter struts assuming your reusing the outback springs. I would imagine that this would affect the useable stroke of your struts. They will bolt up with no problems.

Just a weird idea. check at www.boxer4racing.com

Teague was putting Konis in junkyard struts and doing an exchange.

I dunno if it's too expensive for you or maybe not doable for the Legacy. Probably overkill.

There was a website somewhere (scoobymods or ravensblade/northursalia )that had pics and tutorial on putting the Konis in your self.

make sure you have a 4wd model for that particular set of struts. i think there is a difference between the rear ones from fwd to the awd models..

can someone correct me if im wrong??

putting the longer springs on the shorter struts, wouldnt this make the ride a little harsher? just thinkin.

pretty sure lego springs on a '95 ob strut adds 2 " to ride height on any legacy through 99...you need the frame spacers though and a few other parts from the donor OB's suspension.

i heard from a little birdy that you can re-bore the holes on the strut towers and Forester stuts will slide right on in. that would actually give your OB a bit more clearance....just my $.02

Are the frame spacers for the angle of the axels? Anybody got pics of these spacers?
