Getting up in the morning is a risk too but we all get up and face what lies ahead.:)

 

Like you said,plus he talked to Patrick,the current owner.So from that I think he paid at least fair,if not just a little overpaid for it.But I don't think there's anything that can't be handled.The main thing is that the body will roll on,even if it needs some patchwork,etc. I don't think anyone will be disappointed in the end.

 

Now,the thing to do would be to have it dropped off where labor is cheap and quality acceptable.When it come here and it's time to pay some shop for the work......ouch!There's some of the best restoration shops in the world right here but I don't think Andrew wants to dump $30,000 into it.

 

Rotisserie!!! I might be owning one later this year.It'll be partly owned and the other guy will be using it first if things go as planned.They aren't that much,really.But when I put it to the northeast group to go in on one I got no response.

 

Hopefully we'll all put our differences aside and help each other by sharing such an investment.By that I mean sharing transport cost to save money....splitting a rotisserie....and whatever else we can combine efforts on.That might even include shopping out the bodywork to one shop that would give us a better deal as a threesome,or more,instead of being soaked one at a time.

 

I'm begining to think we need a winter meeting to discuss all this.Everyone sit down and discuss their outlook on expected projects.If we all get a good idea of what each one wants then we'll not step on each other's toes and the effort should be minimized from an individual's personal budget/time allowance.We can also try to talk to shops and see if we can get a deal from a good quality shop.

The seller said it had a 1200 engine in it. The only Subaru 1200 engine that I know of this side of the pond was missing a cylinder...I think it's an EA62 1300cc, which *was* available in the FF1 and the first Leones in late '71/early '72.

 

And yes, I overpaid a litte--but it has no rust, and for the amount of time I've been looking (and the next cheapest alternative more than four times that with shipping from Down Under and the steering wheel on the wrong side to boot) it's worth it to me. Perhaps not to anyone else, but I'll live.

Andrew, can i be one of the privilaged few to see it too:brow: i could possibly hook you up with some shipping. does it run? running cars are alot cheaper to ship than non running.

Nah, this one's a shipper. The cheaper the better--Matt's been running quotes for me and the least expensive is $1750 for just the FF1. Sure, c'mon up and see it sometime (once it gets here). I won't be going cross-country again 'til this summer at least.

what city in Oregon? i may be able to cut Matts quote in half.:lol:

from Scio Oregon to you in CT is $1200

 

from Scio Oregon to the terminal in Linden NJ is $1000

 

these prices are without insurance, that the way i always go on these old cars, going without insurance save you like $200, make sure when if you call to mention you don`t need insurance.

it is in scio. I did the automated thing that DAS offers on their site. The problem is that we told them it runs and it does but the brakes are bad so loading is going to be interesting....

 

See what you come up with for him. I also said about getting a 26' uhaul and putting it inside and going to ID and putting that one inside too (minor bumper removal etc etc.)

 

If he was to go the uhaul route he can't get smalled than the 24' b/c of weight capicity. he could get the 24' and put one in and one on a dolly....

 

Many options here...and none of them are cheap.

i have used DAS 4 times, they seem very good. i usually just do terminal to terminal, where a cross country haul is like $450:D (w/o insurance)

 

 

i will do some more shopping around

72 and 75 for the return trip....

 

 

 

also keep in mind...linden is 143 miles from andrew's home. and we are figuring the dolly would cost $100 to rent....and he is going to have to make 2 trips.

door to door is $1200, for 2 cars, he *might* get a discount

i almost think for this haul he might be better off with an independent shipper with a 3 car trailer, have him pick up the FF1 in Oregon, then go over to ID and pick up the 75, i bet you could find someone willing to do both cars door to door for $1750-2000, and the independent shippers almost always have insurance.

 

 

for an independent shipper, go on ebay and type in things like "Auto transport, car hauling, car transport, auto shippers, etc" and just make an email with all the car info and location info and copy and paste the same message for all the shippers

 

it really just depends how much time you guys want to put into finding the best price, it just takes time

I'm thinking I can probably wait until spring on the FF1. I'm also considering driving the '75 back since I'm probably going back to Wyoming in the near future anyway.

 

I'm not risking shipping w/o insurance unless I go the UHaul route and do it myself. These cars are too unique for that.

but the average guy can care less about these old cars, only the true enthusiasts would recognize their true potencial, i always ship my cars, even the 78 brat w/o insurance, and it never got bothered, plus, if the paint is scratched anyway, and there already is a few dents;) why pay the extra $200+, but thats just my opinion, i like going the cheapest route and saving a buck or two. i guess if you have the money/time to spare, why not take the ride.

Why pay the extra $200? Because the '75 is perfect (no dents) and if that FF1 needs glass when it gets here...let's not even go there. :-\ If I do end up back in Wyoming, I'll just take it nice and easy on the way back home. Done the trip three times before so far...why not?

as i said, its all up to you, i don`t care what you do, just was tryin to help out. actually, if i would have bought that ff1 it would have been paid for and picked up by the shippers already:-\ i`m done
