EA82T hesitation...?

Featured Replies

My RX has some hesitation issues one she gets warmed up. Granted, my PCV system isn't hooked up and a few other little things like the AAV but still. Once she gets warm, she hesitates realy badly unless I ease into the throttle a little at a time or else the turbo starts boosting and she hesitates. What should I look for or what could it be?

At what RPM's mine does it while not on the throttle just keeping my speed if my RPM's are 3000 and under. Than I have another hesitation if I am WOT over 5000 RPM's I am going to try to fix it tomorrow.

Basically any RPM under 3500 or so. After that, she seems to come to life and rev to all heck and back. I love my turbo spool sound!

Mods done to the engine...

STOCK EA82T longblock

'88 XT NA spyder intake with reclocked TB

WRX TMIC

TD04 turbo

stock EA82T uppipe

Megan Racing downpipe

custom AEM CAI with the stock MAF

Well when you figure it out let me know. Do you have a rear O2 I dont I think that could be it.

yup, got an 02 sensor in there as well. Since its in a stock WRX location (down udnerneath the car) compared to the stock EA82T location (right next to the turbo) it should still work right?

you should see if there are codes man. if it were OBDII it would be crying out!

get the nissan injectors, mine had a bad misfire around 2k and wasnt too happy until the turbo spooled with the stock injectors.

the nissan 280z injectors are the answer for gettign the td04 to run properly on the car

yeah I've been thinking about the Nissan injectors. I'll be awhile until I have money to get them since I'm in the process of buying that EA82T from Tex, a set of rims and tires from a guy here in Laramie, and a catback as well... I'll pull the codes here shortly from it but I know that I'm going to have the EGR code since I don't have one:D

what TPS are you using and have you tested it

aginst the FSM for your year?

Many spider conversion problems can be traced to the TPS

I am not sure but the potentiometer values may be different.

Thus it is not telling the ECU the proper throttle position.

I'm using the TPS that came on the spyder intake I got. Its a '88 XT N/A intake. Whats funny though is it doesn't really seem like a TPS problem since it runs ok but when cold, doesn't like to idle (lack of AAV) but when it gets warm, it has it hesitation problem a lot worse.

okay mate, suit youself

but the NA TPS may not have the same characteristics

as the turbo model.

The ones I have worked with have a different connector

I'm gonna say TPS, from the fact that it won't have power, then it suddenly comes on hard. Maybee try adjusting it a little, and adjust idle speed screw accordingly

so then what should I do about the TPS? Is there a specific model I should get one off of cause I don't know if the one from my stock manifold will work. Thanks for the help guys, keep it comin!:headbang:

you ask

" so then what should I do"

I have alreasy suggested

" have you tested it

you replied

"it doesn't really seem like a TPS problem"

So I say

You must know more than I do and all I can

say is --

Good luck., I really hope it is a simple problem

and

I will continue to monitor your progress.

You're welcome from me, for the help thus far.

It's very nice of you to say "thanks"

more people should follow your lead.

my only problem is that the FSM I have is for just the intake, I don't have one specific to my car. I can get the voltages that the X uses but not for my RX which is unfortunate for me. Oh well, I guess its time to start digging through the XT FSM and see what I can come up with for it.

so with some help from kingbobdole, we're might have figured it out. TPS seems to be the problem since we looked at the 3-wire TPS diagrams vs. the 4-wire TPS diagrams. So tomorrow, I'm going to take the 3-wire TPS and put it onto the spyder intake, modify the harness where it needs to be modded and see what becomes of it. I hope it works...
