April 10, 200619 yr i have been told about the ej 18 20 22 swaps, what abou tthe ej25 sti swap???? and what about springs
April 11, 200619 yr what about the ej25 sti swap???? What about it? As far as springs, if you do any turbo swap into an EA, you're gonna NEED upgraded brakes, so you're gonna need to do the 5 lug swap, and then you can choose what ever struts and springs suit your needs.
April 13, 200619 yr well since your going to be using a legacy or wrx tranny, or any other type of Ej tranny, you might as well go to 5 lug like baccaruda said, use impreza stuff up front, and the xt6 out back. this way you wont have as much headache when you try to mate tranny to the hubs. search for accord rear spring swap, and you got your info right there. as far as front springs, when you swap over to impreza stuff, you can use wrx, or sti springs if you want. but id stick with wrx springs up front, anything too stiff will cause alot of understeer, afterall, the accord springs in back can only make up for so much. ~Josh~
April 15, 200619 yr Author ok, is the sti swap the same as the reg. ej????? and what is that about the rear section???? god i need help
April 15, 200619 yr if you put in an STi motor, you're gonna need to upgrade the entire drivetrain, or you will be breaking stuff left and right, hence the rear 5 lug swap. The wiring will be more difficult then the "regular" ej swap, as its a lot less documented. god i need help yes, yes you do.
April 17, 200619 yr Author i love subarus but i have neve had one, i really hope that i can get the wiring down, but i really just need more info on the five lug stuff can i get spring on my gl the way it is now
April 17, 200619 yr for a ea81, how can you go about swapping to complete 5 lug parts in the front end ie the whole drivetrain/axles/knuckles out of a legacy? would shortening some axles by cutting, welding and sleeving be strong enough? I was thinking that maybe they would with a good deep weld really BURNED in on the axle, and a nice sleeve with fishmouths on both ends and some plug welds. but, if there is an easier way I am all ears.
April 17, 200619 yr Author i may not know to much, but i am pretty sure if you wled sleve and what not to a axle it would not be strong enough to support the power of an sti, exspecially when u add more power
April 17, 200619 yr the 5 lug swap is well documented, just look for the USRM in the top right corner. I don't think that you'd have to shorten the axles if you did the 5 lug swap, as those will move the wheels and everything out the necessary amount.
April 17, 200619 yr most decent machine shops can make custom axles to whatever length you need, they can even make ones to mate different joints. also with the STi you may have to alter the tranny tunnel to fit the 6mt. other than that maybe upgrade to an R180 rear diff.
April 17, 200619 yr the 5 lug swap is well documented, just look for the USRM in the top right corner. I was talking about EA81. that conversion is for EA82 correct? or will the ea82 method work on an ea81.
April 18, 200619 yr the five lug swap will only bolt onto the rear of an EA-81. the front is a whole nother story... anyone done five lug swap on the front of a second gen?
April 18, 200619 yr the five lug swap will only bolt onto the rear of an EA-81. the front is a whole nother story... anyone done five lug swap on the front of a second gen? This guy in BC did it with a brat. He's a sooper-dooper welder/fabricator. He machined his own axles (among other things). Here's the thread, unfortunately the pics seem to be broken :-\ http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44201
