June 13, 200619 yr Could one make a locled center diff for a subaru by welding it together or welding a spool into it? Would this bind like a mother on the street? i am assuming it would bind... I also came across on MRt's website, they sell a spool which makes your subaru RWD, interested for those who wanna run a transfer case.
June 13, 200619 yr Well.. as it is, i don't think you could do it... because well... viscous things don't weld well.... As for a shaft... to make your subi RWD... why..... do you have another car to drive? because i don't think you want to be messing w/ the awd that much...
June 13, 200619 yr Author I guess i am trying to find a cheap way to get some lockage going for offroad. Weak viscous lsds are no fun. I guess i'll have to somehow squeeze a dual range into my car, if i could ever find one and someone who can fab up axels for me. And from my reading, the Vlsd can be welded or atleast thats how people are making it out to be.
June 13, 200619 yr fwd impreza axles work. and there's d/r's all over the place up here you'd also need an adapter plate.. a different flywheel (or have yours re-drilled), and figure out a read drive shaft... either weld em together, or have a custom one built.
June 13, 200619 yr There is a differential in there with spider gears. It has a viscous limited slip device attached to it.
June 13, 200619 yr yes, the center diff can be welded. there's a local guy running hi L wagon with RWD right now. yes, it would bind horribly on the street....don't do it yes, FWD impreza axles fit right onto EA part-time 4WD Dual Range trannies and into your hubs (correct me if I"m wrong here, is there a difference between legacy and imp hubs?, otherwise you could probably swap the 23-spline inner cups onto your legacy axles)
June 13, 200619 yr here is a sweet how to http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?t=27532 I would try and find a toasted center diff to weld up beforehand, make it go a lot quicker. then put on a divorced toyota case and toyota axles
June 14, 200619 yr i don't think you want to be messing w/ the awd that much... ...said Mr. 4wd DutyC Lock Man
