Rearend clicking

Featured Replies

I got a loud clicking coming from the pass. rear tire. Is it the axles maybe, or the bearing? The car is a 91 loyale

Is a fast or slow click? Does it change with speed? If you swerve left to right and vice versa does it change pitch? Depending on the noise, it could be a wheel bearing or something stuck in your tire.

Could be bearing, or CVJ. Look at the boots. If they are intact, it is more likely bearings. In over 15 years, I have never had a problem with either in the rear, except 1 boot broke (on '88, in '04). Gave up on the car due to rot before it made noise... Ticking during sharp turns from the front, CVJ. Been there, done that many times. The ticking noise is the warning that a boot broke some months prior...:-\

Hondasuck's has a '87 GL turbowagon with almost 200k miles on it. When you put it into 4wd, the clicking from one of the rear axles is very audible but it will still click when not in 4wd, just not as noticable.

rear CV axle. how many miles on it? cracked boot? boot look like it was ever replaced?

sheared off lug studs held behind an alloy center cap cause ticking as well. more rattling...but can be fairly consistent.
