cd45 Posted June 24, 2006 Share Posted June 24, 2006 Okay, I bought another wagon. It is a 1980, with the middle headlight. I believe it has the EA81 engine, I know it is not an EA 82, that is what is in my 1987. According to the paperwork in the car, it is the GL model. The guy told me that the gas line had become varnished, and that I can fix easily. The ignition switch is also messed up, so if anyone has any ideas, I will gladly listen. The car has a couple of small rust spots, doesn't look too bad, should be easy to fix, there is a little bit of black spotting on the paint, that should rub out fairly easy. If there is anything special that I need to know about the new car, please let me know. I have had my '87 for two years now, so I am not a virgin any more. Thank you in advance. SOOBOUTLAW Posted June 24, 2006 Share Posted June 24, 2006 My '80 wagon's ignition switch is shot too, so I just put a toggle switch under the dash and put a push button starter by the auxilary switch hole next to the ig switch. Love it, don't have to fumble with keys, plus no one can start it but me. It got stolen once when some punk juvie used a key in the ig switch before it broke. It cleaned up pretty good, used a pressure washer to get all the junk and dirt off of it. Vacuumed most of the crud out of it. When I pulled the dipstick out, the oil looked new, nice and clean. I hope that is a good sign. I will be getting back with you on how to wire up the switch. I am building this one for my daughter, she turned 15 last week, I am using the wagon to teach her what I can about cars, she will be helping me whenever there is something major being done. Thanks for the info. Good idea. Good to know that she will be able to help herself on the side of the road, huh? Although, with a good running subie, you can pretty much just keep driving, even when things do go wrong, lol... Those middle eyes are kinda cool... just for a unique touch.
