Got faded bumpers / trim?

Recommended Posts

the bumpers on my turbo wagon are faded and it's always driven me crazy, that bumper black stuff totally sucks, as soon as it rains it comes off, leaving weird streaks...in the end the crap makes the bumper/trim/mirrors look WAY worse.

i'll need to check that stuff out.

I used that stuff on my Brat's bumper - after about 6 months it looked pretty bad again, and now after a year or more it's gone. And yes - I properly preped it - I scrubbed the hell out of it, and removed it from the car for the paint. Used a couple coats too. The stuff looks great till it fades out - which happens all too quickly I'm afraid.

The Krylon "Fusion" for plastics works amazing - I painted the 4WD writeing on the Brat's mud flaps over a year ago, and the stuff looks like I did it yesterday. Really bonds itself to the plastic. I guess there is some chemical bond it creates. The pepper red color is spot on for the subaru red on mudflaps. They have black - I'll be using that stuff on my bumper next time, and probably all the side trim and stuff too.

I use a chemical called: "purple Dressing". It smells like grapes and is more of an oil and not a paint. put it in a spray bottle and spray it on any faded black plastic trim or bumper and let it sit for a bit. Then wipe or wash it off. I just did it on my justy bumpers. Works great. No paint, no masking, done deal in 5-10 minutes!

oh, I would use it on my ea81 bumpers, but they are long gone!

I just bought a can of that bumper color ... I bought the gray to do the interior plastic panels, and they look GREAT!!! But it's too new to tell how long they'll last.

Bought Black for the bumpers, too - I'll get some before/after pics, too if I can. Would be a bummer if it was a 6-month gig, but taping the bumpers can't be that hard. Better to tape them or remove them? Is removing the bumpers that easy? ...
