July 9, 200619 yr well, my commute from lynnwood to tukwila 5 days a week is really taking its toll on my feet...they both have peripheral neuropathy and really do ache after the drive...i have the aftermarket dealer installed cruise where you push forward on the stalk and then click the end to engage but nothing happens..my mechanic says everything is there but it doesnt work and isnt worth the time to try and fix...but i really need it to work as my commute will soon be dupont to tukwila 5 days a week...any tips/suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated!
July 10, 200619 yr It's not that difficult to troubleshoot - there really isn't much to the system. Some vacuum lines, and some electrical stuff. Get a haynes manual and start messing around. You have a crappy mechanic. GD
July 10, 200619 yr yah, i always thought it would be cool to set up a hand throttle like they have on a boat in a car... i suppose its not too save to have it unsprung though. anyone here have any experience putting hand operated throttle controls on an automobile or automobile-esque construction of any sort?
July 10, 200619 yr like the ones they have in vehicles for handycaped? where there are absoutly no pedals ? I'm assuming you can buy just the troddle control no say if you can hook it up to work with your regular pedal AND the hand control but I'd say thats someplace to start looking.
July 10, 200619 yr i have the entire factory cruise control stuff for an 82 gl, ea81. you can come get it if u want, it all works, but it wont with the dual carb setup i have. I am in bellevue.
July 10, 200619 yr I hate to be the one to piss on your parade, but if your neuropathy is really that bad, then you should look in to converting to a hand operated throttle and brake. Peripheral neuropathy can and does slow down reaction times when speed and accuracy are needed to control both throttle and brake in accident avoidance maneuvers. Your condition is considered an impairment to driving. If you and your doctors can't get it under control, should you get into an accident, you could be extremely screwed. Without the proper accomodating equipment, even a simple stop for a broken taillight could get you a citation for driving while functionally impaired.
July 11, 200619 yr Author while i appreciate all the input i didnt say i couldnt walk about driving..said my feet really hurt...bit of a difference there...no jumping to conclusions is necessary here...just would like to get my already in place cruise to work...
July 11, 200619 yr One common problem is a misadjusted disable switch on the brake pedal. I would check that first since it is easy to do.
