August 9, 200619 yr what else is the anti-backfire valve called...cant find it in any parts store and no info in my chiltons.
August 10, 200619 yr I cant remember who tought it to Rick, but he was having a Anti back fire/air induction issue... so what they did(at a meet mind you) is to pull the thing apart and stick quarters in the tubes... it seemed to work well and only a 50 cent fix!
August 10, 200619 yr just to take this part off and close the 2 holes? whan this thing is out of the vacum line...it won't make back-fire when you drive and stuff? so why they put it from the first place?
August 10, 200619 yr It is NOT (can't stress this enough here - NOT, NOT, NOT - understand?) a device that stops "backfire". It's proper technical name is "anti-afterburn valve". It's sole function is to eliminate the soft poping noises you will hear while coasting quickly (usually downhill) with the throttle plates closed. It is (IMO) a useless, extreanous device that should be eliminated. Get an EGR from an SPFI car that doesn't have the tube, and remove the valve, bracket an all associated junk. Beter yet - grab the whole SPFI and swap it on. And the quarter trick doesn't apply - that's the Air Suction Valve, and is not even connected to the AAV GD
August 11, 200619 yr Author have a spfi donor ready but want to dog the crap out of this motor and get some miles out of it first...dont like the idea of just pulling a perfectly good motor out.....once I start having some more problems I will...but for now dont want another EA82 go to waste.

I love it when my car makes that noise, esp since it's got a open 2" pipe and the twin carbies. Fluttering, popping, stuttering noise.. love it. Take it off, you prolly wont notice it gone.
