August 30, 200619 yr The back passenger side door on my wife's legacy is sticking, squeeking, and resisting opening and closing. If you have it open and swing it to shut it it stops half closed and you need to give it another shove. Should I just WD-40 the hinges? There is also a piece that connects the door to the frame..not a hinge but not sure what it is. Looks like a flat bar with grease on it. It is an 01 legacy sedan.
August 30, 200619 yr try white lithium grease should be able to get it at a part store for cheap in a little tube, the problem with wd-40 is that it will just wipe away quickly and you'll be squeaking again in no time.
August 30, 200619 yr I tend to use a silicon spray lubricant for this type of job. It is a bit less messy than the aformentioned white lithium grease and sticks around alot longer than WD-40 does.
August 30, 200619 yr I use the white lithium grease; works very well. WD-40 might work in the short term. White lithium grease's messyness can be reduced by using the spray can version if desired.
August 31, 200619 yr I made a bottle mixed of engine castrol high mileage and sae20 for small elecrtric engines to be sticky.
August 31, 200619 yr You can buy spray Lithium grease at any hardware or auto parts store, not to mention a hardware store. WD40, being a penetrant, would penetrate a rusy surface but not provide the lubricating coating needed.
August 31, 200619 yr thanks guys. I will try the lithium grease and see where that gets me. I like the lithium, but I like sewing machine oil better- Give both a try John
