Purge solenoid INSANITY!

Featured Replies

I agree. The 33 ohms may be too low and the system will show a fault for that also. Try removing one of the resistors so the resistance will be 50 ohms and maybe that will solve this trouble.

ok, cut out one of the resistors, so I now have 50ohms. Still doesn't work :(

Time to dig into the wiring to the ECU I think.

Thanks for all the help,

-Dave

...I have 40ohms in place of my EGR solenoid, and still have a CEL  I think it's something inside the ECU causing the error.

by CEL you´re Meanin´ "Check Engine Light", isn´t it? ... I Wonder if the "ECS" Light permanently On, on my EA82 is the same CEL... ´cos I Didn´t Saw any "Check Engine" Light on my Subies´ Dashes... or they got Burnt Bulbs?

CEL is for fuel injection. ECS is for carb.

86 was a weird year - that was the introduction year of the SPFI (only on 2WD's). After they did away with carbs they changed it to "Check Engine".

One last thing to check is the ground lead for the unit. Check the voltage across it and a known good ground. If there is no voltage drop then the ground connection is ok and it would appear the the trouble is internally in the ECU.
