Featured Replies

I was driving along, and i was accelerating and hit about 4k and all of a sudden steam comes pouring out from under my hood. I stopped immeadiatly and had a rush of coolant pouring out from under my car. i lost it all. Its all centerd around the water pump area, what the hell happend?????? did my new water pump catisrophicly fail!?? No overheat, the gauge was at 1/2

it is possable, does your car eat coolant at any rate?

i thought 4 grand was normal driving RPM's

any ways how many miles on the new water pump ??

i dont think the weep hole could make a puddle under the car that fast but lets say ummmmmmmmmm did you make sure the clams where on tight?

( dont ask LOL )

that's unusual, is the weep hole on the bottom of the pump blocked if so that would explain it

what do you mean blocked? why would that explain things??? Im freakin out, i just got this car on the road and insured and took insurance off my Mazda

less than 100 miles on the pump. i looked and the line coming off the top of the pump was NOT blown off, it seemed dry. the upper weep hole has coolant puddled next to it and theres coolant really all over that area

the weep hole is the 1/4 inch hole in the bottom of the pump, if it's that new though i would start checking hoses, if you don't have any bad hoses i would start to blame the gasket did you use any sealant rtv etc when you put the pump on?

  • Author

i did use RTV, it was awful to get the gasket to stay on and line up and it took me like 45 minutes, i shoulda removed the A/C bracket like your suppose to instead of fighting it. COuld the gasker blowing out cause this big of a leak? i didnt know paper gaskets could blow out, lol

it was a light gray, labled "water pump and thermostat gasket sealer"

huh, well i'm stumped, i'd fill it back up, start it and see if you can see where the coolant is comming out of. i'm out of ideas

ok i have a confession, it wasnt 4k, it was me testing how well the brakes worked, and my foot slipped off the pedal abit and hit the gas abit and it free revved to almost 7k....im so embarressed by that, but i should probably tell you guys since your trying to help. I just got a new muffler and didnt hear it alls i saw was the tach his nearly 7k for just a couple seconds and smoke start pouring from under the hood. omg i feel so dumb, i let off and shut the car off right away

Also i just got a brand new radiator cap, it was a 13lb one, is that way to much? it might have somthing to do with it if the goofs gave me the wrong one

13 lb radiator cap is right, theres a good chance that whatever event "blew" the water pump may have cooked a hose, too. fill it back up, and get it warm. chances are it will stream out somewhere......find the hole, and fixit.

actually today, i had coolant leaking , and all wat it was, was a hole in one of the small hoses. happened to me twice aleready , two different hoses.

yeah, check the 2 small hoses that run over the top of the block around the carb. I blew one of those out at 8k once. thought i blew the freakin engine, lol.

At this point all you can do is spray the engine down with water to get the antifreeze off, let it dry, top off the coolant and start it up to see where it leaks.

7k isn't a bad thing, just don't make a practice of it. Sometimes hoses can split, they look normal untill you squeeze them and then the split opens up. That much coolant that fast sounds like a hose. Fill it up from a garden hose untill you find the hole. Drain it, fix it, and filler up with coolant.

alright, so you dont think my water pump or gasket blew. I will take off the a/c compressor and check it all out, what other hoses are in that vicinity, i dont have a carb, but does it still have those hoses?

  • Author

weres that one? the one smaller 90 degree hoses right off the top of the water pump?

btw im starting to hate this car, the hood release cable just broke today and that about sent me over the edge.

ok it turned out the Water pump gasket actually blew out! its fixed now, i took the a/c compressor out and the water pump was a breeze and i got the gasket on correctly. but now the things wants to overheat and is gutless as hell, i musta did somthing to the timing cause i tried to tighten the slack
