November 13, 200322 yr i need to know how to remove the bumper. the skin is off, thats no problem. flowmastered87 told me about some bolts in the engine bay. where are they. i can't locate them. the bumper frame seems to go back and "hide" and i can't really tell where the bolts are. any help wil be greatly appreciated. thanks
November 13, 200322 yr According to my 86 FSM, the holes are hiding behind the wiring harnesses for the lights. You need to move them to access the holes. Rob
November 13, 200322 yr is it ea82? if so, thgere are 2 bolts on the inside of the framerail under the hood. there are access holes, 2 14mm bolts on each side. towards the front like under the battery, you may have to move some wiring out the way to see them. the heads bolt thru to the inside, thread into the bumper mount, no nuts on the other side!
November 14, 200322 yr and if memory is correct, they are either 14 or 17 mm sized. The "Nuts" are tack welded onto the frame/body section under the fenders. If you end up poping it off then you will need to use a pair of visegrips or at least a good box wrench to hold that square nut.
November 14, 200322 yr on my loyale, the nuts are tack welded to the bumper itself, so one has to back the bolts out that are in the engine compartment...
November 14, 200322 yr the bolts are usually not too hard to undo, It's just when you try to undo them by the nut that you have trouble. I eventually got a nut off using a huge breaker bar, then realized why it was so hard
November 14, 200322 yr Author i got her off today and i started pounding it pack to shape. i went to put it back on to see my progress, and man is it a bitch to put back on. don't know why. it got dark, i got pissed off, and decided to go back at it tomorrow. and yes, they are 14mm and tacked on.
November 14, 200322 yr Its probably hard to put back on because the 2 mounts are slightly tweaked from all the hammering. You may have to hammer them a bit. They should look like this | | This is an exaggeration, but if they are going like this a bit \ / then it will be a bit harder to get it in there. They may even be going / \ Break out a tape measure and check em.
November 14, 200322 yr Author they're straight, it's just difficult to work down dy the radiator. no room. i'm sure if i mess with it tomorrow in the daylight after a few hours of sleep, i won't have so much trouble. i have to take the pass. fender off so i can pound some steel back to shape. it's interfering with the mounting process. luckily it was all bumper that was bent and not ANY frame at all. thank god. thanks for all the help fellas
