November 18, 200619 yr Well i finally got my legacy off road. It's been an interesting journey. I bought it about a month ago. It drove home almost flawlessly 300+ miles. They day after i bought it, the front diff of the 89 d/r 5 spd. trans grenaded. I got two new front axels, and i got a new/used trans from a junkyard with help from members here. So it's in and been driving for a week or so and all seems to be good. I decided today it was finally time to take it offroad and try it out. It did extremely well. I took it pretty easy because i was there with no "recovery" vehicle present. So here are the pics and a few vids taken by my friend drew.
November 18, 200619 yr Awesome, I used to offroad my 91 legacy all the time. Do you have a lift on yours? Looks higher then usual. Wheel on!! ~Jeremy
November 18, 200619 yr Oh yes you do! Never mind. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66777
November 20, 200619 yr The only thing holding you back now is how clean that wagon is! Let me tell you, even stock with bald tires, those things kick butt on the trails. I tested out my $75 donor mobile before I pulled the engine. Lots of dents and dings, but it could drag it's self over anything.
November 20, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the comments guys. It was a blast. Can't wait to do it again. SOON! I am gonna get a little bit more daring once i know i have someone to get me out in case i am stuck. There is some BAD crap where i was there and it had just rained for two days. In one of those vids there is a puddle to the right. I know from running my bronco through there, that puddle is about 5 ft deep! And it gets worse the further you go. In areas back there guys with lockers and 44's have gotten buried to the windows. :0 BTW this is about 1 min from my house. YAY! The guy doing the vid has a lifted cherokee that is tore apart in my garage. Hopefully in the next week or two he will have it done and we will go back and get some more footage. As for how clean it is, well. I don't know i tried to get it dirty. I wa surprised it stayed as clean as it did. Also the car did awesome. What little i did there was not pushing it in any way. I now have a good idea of what it may be capable of. Far more than i ever thought. The hardest thing to get used to is how high the car really sets. It is very decieving inside it. Plus where my bumpers are. Still need a spotter there. That will change though, maybe this winter. I have collected some free steel for some custom front and rear bumpers. Also i hope i can get some tsl's or SS mud tires on there too. Right now running BFG AT's. Sorry for the book. I am just really stoked!
November 20, 200619 yr gotta get some tires that really chew up the ground and throw mud everywhere with horrible traction and that stick out past your fenders if ya wanna get dirty Nah actually its pretty hard to get subarus dirty in my experiance compared to other vehicles. That pic was a day or so after wcss8... but even my lifted wagon I have a hard time getting dirty at all. Big tires + high void ratio, low torque and high gearing makes it tough to throw mud everywhere. Nice wagon.

Big tires + high void ratio, low torque and high gearing makes it tough to throw mud everywhere. I must dissagree,lol.. The reason being, when i have my all terrains on with the pug alloys, in fwd, going threw a mud hole, it gets dirty, and fast..
December 17, 200619 yr Author Went wheelin again with buddy in his pathfinder. The P was very limited but made it through quite a bit. It was tricky to find paths for it. Sweeet Yes thats water in the car. YAY. Didn'y get any pics of the hole i was in. It was scary and i just wanted to get out! Matt workin' it
December 17, 200619 yr I must dissagree,lol.. The reason being, when i have my all terrains on with the pug alloys, in fwd, going threw a mud hole, it gets dirty, and fast.. yes...now there's a good picture to be posting on the internet....
December 18, 200619 yr Put a snorkel on before you suck water with that car. It only takes on good hydrolock to ruin a good day wheeling.
December 18, 200619 yr Author Put a snorkel on before you suck water with that car. It only takes on good hydrolock to ruin a good day wheeling. Yeah i know. I was a little worried. I checked it and there was no water even close to the air filter so.......... But i definately need a snorkel.
December 21, 200619 yr yes...now there's a good picture to be posting on the internet.... yea i thought it was to.
December 26, 200619 yr Yeah i know. I was a little worried. I checked it and there was no water even close to the air filter so.......... But i definately need a snorkel. I've been there, hyrdolocked that. The air is pulled from inside the fender, so if your fender liner is loose in the front, it will scoop water up and the engine will suck it right down.
January 4, 200719 yr Author THANKS! It's really fun. I need some better tires though:-\ All in all it does pretty well.
January 7, 200719 yr I must dissagree,lol.. The reason being, when i have my all terrains on with the pug alloys, in fwd, going threw a mud hole, it gets dirty, and fast.. i have the same wheels on my wagon lol but i havent had enough mud to make it dirty
