A DOG
So I just scored a 1990 legacy wagon with 230,000 miles on it. It runs great. Doesn't leak anything. Doesn't tick at all. Its a 5sp with sunroof. Anyway I was just wondering what the options for modding a 1990 legacy wagon are. I've looked around a few sites and can't find much. I am gonna do a whole engine transplant with an EJ22TT or just a single turbo. But for now what are my options as far as suspension, and drivetrain parts? Also anyone know where to get headers for a 1990 EJ22? I am gonna do all the normal things to eek out power like: Accel super coil optima battery new plugs and wires new distributer cap and rotor K&N air filter full exhaust anyone know where to get better injectors? Anything else I should be doing, or any good website suggestions? Thanks
s'ko
Not completely sure about this but I thought all EJ engines were DIS. So there is no cap and rotor and no need for the accel coil. exhaust and intake would help in opening up some power. Borla makes a good set for headers for the EJ22. In terms of brakes and stuff, WRX stuff is a direct bolt on. IF you have single pot fronts, RS brakes are an upgrade. Have fun. BW

A DOG
I did find out that 04 WRX suspension will swap on. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=982971 Also what year EJ22s are the same. Like is my 1990 EJ22 the same as a 95 EJ22? Thanks a lot

Look, if you're going to rice the car out, don't bother going to http://bbs.legacycentral.org. Ricers are not well responded to. And, don't go to NASIOC, they're all ricers. 970subaru
who said he was going to rice it out? and there are some of the best subaru minds on nasioc, but also the worst. a dog do a bunch of reading over on legacycentral, dont mind manarius. basically, if you have a question about modding the 90-94 legacy, it has been covered, often several times. personally if I was you I'd look into an ej20g(japanese 2.0L single turbo from early-mid 90s) or build some sort of hybrid motor like an ej22e block with ej20g heads or ej25 heads, and a wrx turbo setup. Manarius
a dog do a bunch of reading over on legacycentral, dont mind manarius. Why do I think he's going to rice the car out? Look at the title, his goals, and that he went to NASIOC first. Legacycentral has lots and lots of good information, but we don't respond well to people whose first post is "What can I do to get more power!?" and their goals are just putting on big turbos and wings and being ricey. Phizinza
Also what year EJ22s are the same. Like is my 1990 EJ22 the same as a 95 EJ22? I always thought it was 89 - 93 that had the phase 1 EJ22 (at least that is how it is here in Australia.) Wonder what the differences are with the later ones? Like are the parts interchangable or are the sensors different? Isn't the OBD all to do with the ECU?
Bmm001
There are probably some different sensors since '95 is OBDII. Additionally, I believe that changes were made to the exhaust system resulting in more power (135 HP vs. 130). Brian M.

In 1996, the EJ22 moved to a single port exhaust design. In 1997, the shape of the piston was reformed to give it a little more HP. Also in 1996/97 (weird years) there was a change to solid lifters instead of the HLA's like on the 89-95/96 years. The 1st gen (OBDI) is 1989-1994 in the US. A DOG
Isn't this an EJ22TT And no I'm not ricing it out. Just because I want more power doesn't mean I'm a ricer. If I was looking for body kits and stickers I would be a ricer.
