If they found out that Subarus were an effete eastern snob car, they would go back to 4WD F-250's just to not appear to 'affected'. That would be Subaru's loss, Exxon's gain.
December 12, 200619 yr Washington based Subie here. I do at least 8K miles on snow/ice every winter chasing my ski-racer son. Frequently haul Suburban drivers who are stuck.
